What Is Praying?

Praying is speaking with God from the heart. It is not just repeating religious words; it is turning toward God with honesty, trust, worship, need, confession, and surrender.

To pray is to say: “Father, I need You. I trust You. Teach me Your will.”

Biblical Reference

Jesus taught His disciples to pray simply and sincerely:

“Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.”
— Luke 11:2-4

Jesus also prayed in deep sorrow before the cross:

“Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.”
— Luke 22:42

And He encouraged us to come to God with trust:

“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.”
— Matthew 7:7

Present-Day Translation

Today, praying can be as simple as quietly saying:

“God, thank You for being with me. Help me today. Forgive me where I have done wrong. Teach me to love like Jesus. Let Your will be done.”

You can pray out loud, silently, while walking, before sleep, in joy, or in pain. What matters most is not perfect words, but a sincere heart turned toward God.
